The 47th Ward represents roughly the area north of poplar, east of ridge ave, south of montgomery ave and west of broad st. There are 14 divisions that make up the 47th ward.

About Ward Leader
Within their respective wards, ward leaders are elected to 4 year terms and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Electing the party Chair every four years
- Staffing polling places in the division
- Recruiting committeepeople for open seats
- Endorsing candidates and running a get-out-the-vote (GOTV) program
- Raising funds—often, but not exclusively, from candidates running for office
- Pick candidates in special elections
The 47th ward leader is Lewis Nash Sr.
About Committeepeople
Committeepeople are the closest elected officials to the voters in Philadelphia. Committeepeople represent a division with in a Ward (there are two Democratic seats per division). The job doesn’t have many official duties—the role is what one makes of it. Things that can be done by committeepeople include:
- Vote for a ward leader (this is an official duty)
- Register and remind neighbors to vote
- Share candidate endorsements with voters in the division
- Circulate nominating petitions to help candidates get on the ballot
- Organize community events or neighborhood beautification
